Nexstar Media Charitable Foundation Donates $5,000 To Great Plains Tribal Chairmen’s Health Board in Rapid City, SD

Irving, TX (August 23, 2022) – The Nexstar Media Charitable Foundation and KCLO-TV, the Nexstar television station serving Rapid City, South Dakota, and the surrounding area, today announced that the Foundation will donate $5,000 to Great Plains Tribal Chairmen’s Health Board (GPTCHB). The donation will be used to assist in their vision for all tribal nations and communities in the Great Plains to reach optimum health and wellness through lasting partnerships with health organizations and embrace culturally significant values that are empowered by tribal sovereignty.

Established in 1986, GPTCHB is dedicated to serving the health and wellness needs of the tribal members it represents. Assisting with the needs of 18 tribes and tribal communities in the four-state region of South Dakota, North Dakota, Nebraska and Iowa, GPTCHB addresses the health necessities of its members by assisting in accessing health-related programs and resources.

In addition to advocacy on behalf of the represented tribal members, the organization also provides critical health promotion and education outreach services through its various programs and departments. Furthermore, the health board advocates nationally for improved Indian health policies on behalf of the tribes and tribal communities it represents, which comprise nearly 170,000 individuals.

“We recognize the important work of Great Plains Tribal and the impact it has on our state,” said Mari Ossenfort Vice President and General Manager of KELOLAND Media Group.  “We are pleased to help this organization achieve its goals. Giving back to the communities served by Nexstar across the country is core to the company’s mission, and we are honored that the Nexstar Media Charitable Foundation is making this donation in recognition of the deep relationship between KELOLAND and the Great Plains Tribal Chairmen’s Health Board.”

Commenting on the contribution, Jerilyn Church, President & Chief Executive Officer of Great Plains Tribal Leaders Health Board, said: “The Great Plains Tribal Leaders Health Board is extremely grateful for the support we have received from the Nexstar Charitable Grant Foundation. We hope that our work together will continue to provide accurate and appropriate public health content to the public.”

The Nexstar Media Charitable Foundation’s mission is to contribute to and work with public charities and non-profit organizations to improve the communities in which Nexstar Media and its subsidiaries do business. The foundation was originally established in 1958 and it makes donations of approximately $350,000 annually.
