Nexstar Media Charitable Foundation Donates $5,000 To Storybook Island of Rapid City, South Dakota
IRVING, TX (Nov. 26, 2021) – The Nexstar Media Charitable Foundation and KCLO-TV, the Nexstar Media Inc. television station serving Rapid City, South Dakota, and part of the KELOLAND Media Group serving the state, announced today the Foundation will donate $5,000 to Storybook Island. The mission of Storybook Island is to provide a free, safe, educational environment for those “young in years or young at heart to experience the power of imagination.”
In operation for more than 60 years, Storybook Island offers more than 100 storybook, nursery rhyme and fairy tale settings where children can use their imagination, see a live theater production, and ride a train on the Storybook Island Line through Middle Park. The park was founded in 1959 and is open annually from Memorial Day to Labor Day. For many, it is a place where magic happens. KCLO-TV has a long-established relationship with the park, serving as one of the organization’s media partners, sponsoring some of its fundraisers and providing news coverage when appropriate. Many of the station’s staff help by volunteering their time and effort at the park.
“Storybook Island is honored to be chosen to receive a $5,000 donation from KELOLAND TV and Nexstar,” said Jackie Laws, Executive Director of Storybook Island. “These funds will go towards our new all-ability playground equipment expansion, which will meet the needs of all children and families in the Rapid City Community. We are so honored and humbled by the gift from the Nexstar Foundation and KELOLAND Media Group, which will enable us to continue to update the park to meet the needs of all visitors.”
Commenting on the donation, Mari Ossenfort, Vice President and General Manager of KCLO-TV and the KELOLAND Media Group said, “Storybook Island is a special place, especially for young children who simply light-up once they enter the park. The organization does a wonderful job giving children a myriad of educational opportunities, while also and spurring creativity. Giving back to the communities served by Nexstar across the country is core to the company’s mission, and we are proud that the Nexstar Media Foundation will make this donation in recognition of the deep relationship between KCLO-TV, its employees, and the park.”
The Nexstar Media Charitable Foundation’s mission is to contribute to and work with public charities and non-profit organizations to improve the communities in which Nexstar Media and its subsidiaries do business. The foundation was originally established in 1958 and it makes donations of approximately $350,000 annually.
