Nexstar Brings Mississippi Communities Together via Television Broadcast and Livestream Video
JACKSON, MS and IRVING, TX – Nexstar Broadcasting, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Nexstar Media Group, Inc. (Nasdaq: NXST) announced today that it will host a live virtual Town Hall meeting with Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves on Thursday, April 9, 2020 at 7:00 p.m. CT. The governor will address the statewide response to the current coronavirus outbreak and will be joined by Mississippi’s State Health Officer, Dr. Thomas Dobbs. Due to restrictions on large gatherings, the one-hour virtual Town Hall will take place at the studios of WJTV-TV in Jackson, Mississippi, and bring viewers in communities across the state together via live television broadcast and livestream video. Viewers will be invited to submit questions to Governor Reeves and Dr. Dobbs via social media using the hashtag #AskReeves.
The television broadcast will be hosted by WJTV-TV anchor Byron Brown and will air on three Nexstar stations serving the state, including WJTV-TV (CBS), WHLT-TV (CBS) in Hattiesburg, and WREG-TV (CBS) in Memphis. Other television stations carrying the broadcast include WXXV-TV (FOX, NBC) in Gulfport, WMDN-TV (CBS) in Meridian, and WCBI-TV (CBS) in Columbus. All six of these stations will also provide a livestream of the broadcast on their respective websites. Three other Nexstar stations will provide a livestream only, including WGNO-TV in New Orleans, WVLA-TV in Baton Rouge, and WKRG-TV in Mobile. (See table below for list of participating stations and station website links).
The Town Hall will open with Governor Reeves and Dr. Dobbs providing the latest information on the state’s response to the coronavirus crisis. The broadcast will then turn to questions submitted by viewers from around the state, facilitated by Mr. Brown. Viewers can contribute a question to the Governor or Dr. Dobbs via a variety of social media platforms using the hashtag #AskReeves. Preference will be given to those questions submitted as videos rather than texts.
“Viewers know they can turn to Nexstar’s local television stations as a trusted source of important news and critical information, especially during times of crisis and uncertainty,” said Tim Busch, President of Nexstar Broadcasting, Inc. “The unprecedented unique format of this Town Hall will bring together viewers across Mississippi, providing them with the latest information about the state’s response to the coronavirus outbreak and giving them a chance to ask questions of the Governor and Mississippi’s top state health official. We are proud to harness the combined resources of our local station operations serving Mississippi to bring this virtual Town Hall directly to viewers across the state. We are grateful to Governor Reeves and his administration for allowing Nexstar to serve as the host of this special event.”
