KOIN

Station Profile

One of the pioneer stations of the Pacific Northwest, KOIN 6 began its proud legacy when the station’s doors opened in 1925 as a broadcast radio station. Within months, KOIN joined the ranks of the best-known and most-trusted stations in the country. In 1953, KOIN radio became KOIN-TV and Portland’s CBS affiliate providing local news, network and syndicated entertainment to viewers in Oregon and SW Washington. KOIN 6 News is “Watching Out For You” with 35 hours of local news each week featuring award-winning, in-depth investigations. KOIN 6 consumers also have 24/7 digital access to KOIN news, traffic and weather on koin.com and KOIN 6 mobile apps.

KOIN is an integral community partner by supporting several local nonprofit organizations and events such as The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure, One Warm Coat’s coat drive and SOLVE’s Oregon Beach and Riverside Cleanups. Additionally, each summer, KOIN 6 sponsors the Waterfront Blues Festival, the largest blues festival on the West Coast and the second-largest blues festival in the nation! The festival benefits the Oregon Food Bank.

KOIN 6 is located in the KOIN Center, a 30-story building in the heart of Portland’s downtown financial and business community. The building has excellent views of Mount Hood, Mount St. Helens, the Willamette River and Waterfront Park.

Market Profile

Portland, OR is in the 23rd largest DMA in the United States, with a population of approximately 2,818,460 and 1,277,920 television households, as reported by Nielsen Media.

KOIN 6 is proud to call Portland, Oregon home. According to United Van Lines, Oregon has been the top relocation destination for the past three years. The tech boom, a lower cost of living, and easy access to beautiful coastlines and majestic mountains and forests are just a few of the reasons why people are drawn to the Pacific Northwest. It is also home to the 2015 MLS Champions – The Portland Timbers and a top notch NBA team – The Portland Trail Blazers. It’s a fun place to visit and if you’re lucky enough, it’s a great place live.

Portland’s dominant cable provider is Comcast. Cable penetration in the market has been decreasing for the past several years. Today, the penetration is 52.4% and other ADS are at 34.1%.
