WCBD

Station Profile

Nexstar Broadcasting Group purchased WCBD-TV (NBC) and ECBD-TV (CW) from Media General in 2016.

WCBD originally signed onto the airwaves in 1954 as WUSN-TV in what was then a very remote portion of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. In 1983, Media General purchased WCBD from the State Record Company. In the years that followed, the station went from producing one hour of local news on weekdays, to producing nearly 37 hours each week, including a live, local newscast on the Lowcountry CW at 10 p.m.

WCBD became an NBC affiliate in 1996, and celebrated its 60th Anniversary in 2014.

WCBD’s call letters stand for: C=Charleston, B=Berkeley, D=Dorchester for the three main counties it serves.
