WGN Radio To Air Classic Roy Leonard Shows and 27 Hours of “Christmas Radio Theatre” Beginning on Christmas Eve
CHICAGO (December 9, 2020) – WGN Radio will air three hours of classic Roy Leonard shows on Christmas Eve beginning at 4 pm, followed by 27 hours of “Christmas Radio Theatre”, hosted by Carl Amari, from Thursday, December 24 at 7 pm until Friday, December 25 at 10 pm.
In a career that spanned 31 years at WGN Radio and ended in 1998, Roy Leonard treated listeners to in-depth conversations with the biggest names in entertainment and introduced the audience to new talent. Featured selections heard on December 24 from 4 pm to 7 pm will include “Letters to Santa”, amongst others.
Beginning December 24 at 7 pm and continuing through December 25 at 10 pm, “Christmas Radio Theatre” will feature some of the greatest Christmas programs from radio’s golden-age including: Miracle On 34th Street starring Edmund Gwenn, Lucille Ball in My Favorite Husband, Dennis Day, Raymond Burr, Greer Garson, Keenan Wynn and Hume Cronyn in tales of Suspense, Sydney Greenstreet as Nero Wolfe, Eve Arden in Our Miss Brooks; Bing Crosby and Al Jolson on The Kraft Music Hall, William Bendix on The Life of Riley, The Abbott & Costello Show, Escape, The Burns & Allen Show, Gunsmoke, The Adventures of Ozzie & Harriet, Fibber McGee & Molly, The Whistler, The Great Gildersleeve, and many more.
“It’s going to be a fun-filled 27 hours of incredible golden-age of radio Christmas programs, so cozy up around the radio,” said host Carl Amari.
Amari has spent decades licensing and preserving classic radio broadcasts from the 1930s, 40s, and 50s, is the curator of the Classic Radio Club, and board member of the Museum of Broadcast Communications in Chicago.
